Which town is gavin and stacey set
This is where Stacey worked in season 3, but it can be seen in the background throughout the entire series and is an iconic Gavin and Stacey location. This is actually called Island Leisure Amusement Arcade and can be found at the end of the Western Shelter on the promenade. It is still almost exactly like it was in the series itself, with a few changes here and there and a huge wall of Gavin and Stacey memorabilia for sale, but you can still read the famous unreadable sign and get a few goes of the penny arcades in before Nessa breaks your face!
This epic stretch of sand where the entire gang headed for a seaside day out and Bryn got everyone excited with his James Bond in the ocean impression, is actually called Whitmore Bay Beach and is right in front of the main square and the promenade.
It is actually a lot larger than the TV made it seem but can still get pretty packed on hot, sunny days! Both beaches are stunning and there are some great coastal walks on either side. Barry Island Pleasure Park is featured heavily in the episode where the whole gang turn up in Barry for a day at the beach. It is right next to the promenade, just a few minutes walk from the beach itself. Technically I think it may actually be part of the promenade!
And the log flume is even back after a long absence! Shit a brick! As well as an unseen showdown with the dreaded Jean. The wedding that never was, the doomed romance ruined by Smithy at the last minute was actually due to take place in St. Despite Pam kicking off about her little boy being carted off to get married in some dirty fairground, the scene where Gavin and Stacey got married was actually filmed in St. Cattwgs Church in Llanmaes.
There are of course so many other locations in and around Barry that were featured in Gavin and Stacey, so many in fact that it felt like a character all of its own! Even shattering the illusion slightly by seeing the locations in reality does nothing to quell that sense of familiarity and warmth that you get from watching endless repeats of this classic comedy.

I love Gavin and Stacey! I really need to go and see all of these places soon. Are most of them really close enough together to walk? Me too! And yes absolutely. There are of course a few that are further out but most of the main sites the beach, the ones on the promenade etc are right next to each other, and you can walk to Trinity street easily from there.
Other places like Gavins house are in neighbouring towns though. Gavin and Stacey! Aww I love that programme. Its such a Christmas classic! I definitely have to visit now.
Wales has some amazing coastline, especially in the south, you should check out the Gower coastline in particular but yes Barry beach is stunning! Gavin and Stacey is amazing! I would love to see the sets and locations but always thought I would have to get a tour or something! Thanks for this. I thought that too before I came and really struggled researching the practicality of doing and seeing everything yourself which is why I wrote this. Hope it was useful for you?
I am obsessed with Gavin and Stacey! I need to get down to Barry, I had no idea it was really like that! Have to plan my next trip to Cardiff now and a little side trip to Barry to see all these gavin and stacey locations, lush!
I love this post! Had such an amazing day today with this post, thank you so much! They are actually filming the new Christmas special right now and I am dying to get a glimpse of one of the cast! That is awesome Georgia, so glad you found the post useful. Have you seen any of the cast there yet?
Fans who are eagerly awaiting the new Christmas special will no doubt remember where things left off — with a failed wedding that saw Nessa and Dave parting as friends after Smithy interrupted the ceremony to declare his sort of love for Nessa.
Although the barn dance which Gwen throughs is supposed to take place in Barry, it was actually filmed in All Saints Church Hall in Penarth. Today, retirees make up over a quarter of its population. The house is part of an official Gavin and Stacey tour, and year-old Glenda calculates she has welcomed thousands of visitors. She no longer has "Gwen's" cream sofa because the seats began to collapse - she thinks because so many people sat on it. The living room is decorated in Gavin and Stacey memorabilia and photographs of the cast and crew, with thank you cards from guests on the shelves. While she is not a fan of Gwen's signature omelettes, she leaves a frying pan on the kitchen hob which visitors can use as a prop for pictures.
A stack of visitor books have been signed by people from as far afield as Australia and Hawaii. Glenda was not expecting to see the show's creators again, but Jones suddenly appeared on her doorstep in April this year, accompanied by her young niece, which the writer and actress has since admitted was a ruse.
Can I get your phone number? I knew exactly what she was doing, but I never let on," added Glenda. She smiled, called me a snitch, and got out of the car to have a photo with them. Marco's cafe is still standing strong on Barry Island, overlooking the Welsh beach.
And although you won't catch Stacey looking for Iron Bru behind the counter, you can visit the well-known coffee and ice cream shop which opens from 8am - 5pm every day. In the beloved series, the Colcot Arms is set in Billericay — it's the local pub in which Smithy hosts his pub quiz. Just like Marco's, you won't find Gavin's best mate propping up the bar but you can visit the pub, which is on Colcot Road in Barry Island, Wales.
